What is genital aesthetics?
Genital aesthetics is a procedure in which the appearance of the external genital organs is improved, and asymmetries are eliminated. Problems that are aesthetically disturbing in patients, that may cause problems in sexual intercourse, and that may cause dysfunction such as urinary incontinence are corrected with genital aesthetics.
Genital aesthetic interventions are the general name of aesthetic methods used to correct congenital or acquired deformities in the genital area. Genital aesthetic surgery performed under general or local anesthesia involves reshaping structures such as the groin, external genital organs, clitoris, labia majora (outer lips), and labia minora (inner lips). Patients have a comfortable recovery after genital aesthetics.
Why genital aesthetics is needed?
Deformations in women’s genitals can cause both functional and aesthetic problems over time. This can trigger feelings such as embarrassment, shyness, and lack of self-confidence. Problems in the genital area can cause women to avoid emotional relationships or sexuality, negatively affect their married life, and cause communication problems between couples.
Genital aesthetics helps to achieve the desired appearance in the vulva or vagina area.
Common problems that contribute to the deformation process in the genital organs are:
- Congenital deformities.
- Loss of the usual appearance of the vaginal area with aging.
- Sagging due to rapid weight gain or loss.
- Loss of shape and aesthetics in the vagina because of multiple births.
- Excessive growth of the vaginal lips due to deformations in the vulva.
- Deformations that occur after a difficult labor and delivery.
- Loss of sexual satisfaction and vaginal aesthetics caused by incisions made in the vagina during delivery.
- Uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence problems because of bladder abnormalities.
How is genital aesthetics performed?
Genital aesthetics is an operation performed by dividing into sections. The applied procedures are as follows:
Labiaplasty:
The inner lips, labia minora, may outgrow, sag and become irregular with puberty or congenitally, causing an aesthetically unpleasant appearance. These deformations of the outer lips (labia majora) or inner lips (labia minora) in the female external genital area are both sexually and socially disturbing. In this condition, sometimes called “labial asymmetry”, one of the lips may be longer or different in structure than the other. Surgical correction of these problems is called labiaplasty.
Labiaplasty procedures can be performed under local or general anesthesia. After the operation, a 4-week sexual abstinence period is required. No scars are seen at the end of the healing process.
Vaginoplasty:
The vagina may enlarge due to aging, vaginal delivery, sexual intercourse, and interventions such as abortion. “Vaginoplasty”, also known as vaginal tightening surgery, is an operation performed to restore the vagina to its former tight state. In addition to surgical techniques, laser tightening can also be used for vaginoplasty.
During the operation, mucosa and muscle tissue are removed from the back wall of the vagina to solve the problem, the vaginal canal is narrowed and sewn. After a few days of convalescence, the patients return to their daily life. As with labiaplasty, the patient should observe 4-week sexual abstinence.
Clitoroplasty:
The clitoris is defined as ‘the bulge in the upper junction of both labia, just above the urinary canal’. In some cases, the clitoris may be larger than necessary. This may cause discomfort and a lack of self-confidence in women. To correct the deformation, excess tissue is surgically removed from the area. The remaining part is sewn using dissolvable stitches. Clitoroplasty surgery can sometimes be performed together with labiaplasty aesthetics. These two procedures can be performed at the same time.
Perineoplasty:
The anatomy between the entrance of the vagina and the anus may deteriorate in cases such as the postpartum incision not healing properly. Distorted anatomy may also cause a decrease in sexual pleasure. In such cases, the surgical intervention called perineoplasty can be applied. Perineoplasty is usually performed together with vaginal tightening. These operations aim to improve sexual functions and aesthetic appearance by performing anatomical corrections in the vaginal area.
Repair of tear scars after childbirth:
The episiotomy procedure, which is applied when necessary during vaginal birth, is the incisions made so that the baby’s head can come out comfortably.
However, if these incisions are not repaired well, poor suturing technique is used, or not done at all; it may cause deformations in the vaginal area. This situation can make women seriously unhappy. The scar tissues are simply removed under local anesthesia and the tissues are properly matched and sutured again. Internal tissue loosening or sagging that occurs in this process can also be corrected. After vaginal aesthetics, the patient returns to her daily life in a short time. It is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse during the recovery period (approximately 6 weeks).
Aesthetic groin surgery:
The groin is the area located below the lowest part of the belly. Factors such as aging, weight gain, or weight loss may cause sagging, leading to an unpleasant appearance in the groin area.
One of the most common complaints about this area is fat accumulation. Fat accumulation problems are solved with liposuction treatment. Sagging in the groin tissue is treated by surgical removal of excess skin. In this way, the groin area is provided with a firmer and more aesthetic appearance.
How is genital aesthetic surgery performed?
There are various options for genital aesthetic procedures. Some of these are as follows:
Vaginoplasty; It is the process of narrowing and tightening the vagina. It is preferred for enlarged or loosened vaginas due to factors such as giving birth or aging.
Labiaplasty (also known as labioplasty) is a procedure that corrects the shape and size of the vaginal lips. It can be applied if the inner or outer lips are sagging, asymmetrical, or uncomfortably large.
Clitoroplasty; It is a procedure that aims to correct the covered tissue on the clitoris. If the clitoral hood is excessive, it can be preferred to make the clitoris more prominent.
Repair of tear scars after childbirth; it is an aesthetic surgery in which vaginal deformation experienced during childbirth is treated.
Aesthetic groin area; It is the process of removing excess fat tissue accumulated in the groin area with the help of a vacuum. Sagging or fat accumulation that creates an unpleasant appearance can be removed with this treatment.
What are the advantages of genital aesthetics?
Genital aesthetic procedures are easily applied a satisfying outcome and the risk of application is low. The fact that patients can return to their daily lives in a short time after the procedure and that the subject is no longer taboo has positively affected the approach and discussion of women. The satisfactory results obtained through the patient-doctor relationship based on communication and safe increase the satisfaction of the patients.
