What Is PicoSure

PicoSure is a versatile FDA-approved laser that’s most widely used to remove tattoos. However, PicoSure lasers can also tackle sun-induced brown spots, acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. Results can sometimes be seen after only two treatments. It uses “pigment-seeking technology” to locate pigmented areas or ink. The laser’s pulses release energy in a picosecond (one trillionth of a second), hence its name. These quick bursts make it less likely to burn, so it is safe for all skin types. PicoSure’s effectiveness is more remarkable than that of traditional technology.

How Is PicoSure Applied

For tattoo removals, PicoSure provides energy in ultra-brief bursts to treat the targetted areas, and patients commonly compare the laser pulse to a thin rubber band snapping. Furthermore, unlike surgery, laser acne scar and skincare treatments employ ultra-short pulses of laser light to address the skin’s sub-layers and support structure.

The body’s natural healing mechanism then sweeps away older, damaged tissue and replaces it with new, fresh collagen and elastin—the essential building blocks of healthy skin. It is a quick and painless treatment with minimal recovery time.

How Many Sessions Of PicoSure Should Be Applied

Only a few treatments are required to improve the appearance of your skin and achieve a more youthful appearance by eradicating pigmented spots. A typical treatment lasts 10 to 30 minutes under local anesthesia. Naturally, you will have treatment sessions every six to eight weeks for your skin to heal. Additional treatments may be needed for pigmented lesions that are darker, deeper, or larger. However, most of the time, it takes 3-4 sessions with 4-6 weeks of breaks.

Is PicoSure Safe

PicoSure treatment is generally considered safe, but treating the area like a wound for a few days is safest because there can be swelling, heat, pinpoint bleeding, and even some tiny blisters after treatment. If you decide to have Picosure treatment, you must stop smoking two weeks before treatment and let your doctor know about your medications and diseases.

Candidates For PicoSure

The best candidate is a person in good general health who wants to remove pigmentation spots or a tattoo that has already healed. You are not the right candidate if you:

  1. Have an autoimmune disorder, including lupus or type 1 diabetes
  2. Have melanoma, an active infection (such as herpes), psoriasis, or eczema in the area being treated
  3. Are you pregnant or breastfeeding
  4. Have a tan
  5. Have a history of keloid scarring
  6. You should not take any blood thinners and have a pacemaker or defibrillator.

Things To Consider When Having A PicoSure Treatment

The patients should expect only significant fading and not 100% eradication of tattoos. Also, the treatment area may be sensitive after the operation. It’s critical to maintain the area clean and free of irritation. The longevity of your results will depend on how well you protect your skin from sun exposure and your aging process. After facial rejuvenation treatments, you can experience up to a few hours of minor swelling and redness and a warm sensation.
