What are Botox Injections for Sweating

Sweating is a natural mechanism the human body uses to cool the body temperature during hot weather while practicing sports, experiencing stress, or feeling nervous. However, it becomes a problem that needs to be solved with botox injections, botulinum toxin, or other treatments when sweating occurs in different body areas, even when the person is at a standstill or the weather is cold.

These people experience excessive sweat that affects their daily activities. This medical condition is called hyperhidrosis.

Before explaining how botox can be a safe and effective way to decrease sweating, let us dig deeper into hyperhidrosis to get a better understanding. Hyperhidrosis, as mentioned above, is excessive sweating, especially when there is nothing to trigger it. In some cases, hyperhidrosis may occur while sleeping, ranging from sweating to heavily dropping hands or foreheads.

Beard and mustache transplantation is a non-surgical procedure in which hair follicles are transferred from the donor area, the back of the head, to the recipient area; the chin and mustache areas to be treated.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that usually affects certain parts of the body, such as;

  1. The hands and the feet.
  2. Back and chest and under the breasts.
  3. Groin sweating.
  4. Head, face, and nose areas.
  5. Underarms.

There are two main types of hyperhidrosis;

  • Focal Hyperhidrosis

Focal hyperhidrosis is believed to be genetic, as it runs in families. It appears at an early age, usually in adolescence.

There are no specific or known causes for this type; therefore, it cannot be cured. However, Botoks injections can treat excessive sweating within 12 months if done by a medical professional.

  • Generalized Hyperhidrosis

This type of hyperhidrosis does not have a specific age. The person can start witnessing excessive sweating at any time. In order to cure this type of hyperhidrosis, the cause of it must be diagnosed. Once the original cause is treated, hyperhidrosis stops.

What Causes Generalized Hyperhidrosis?

There are many reasons for this type of hyperhidrosis, but mainly it may happen due to a particular disease, medical problem, or medication the person is undertaking.

Unlike focal hyperhidrosis, generalized hyperhidrosis is not recommended for botox treatment. In other words, there is no need for Botok injections, as generalized hyperhidrosis can be cured by resolving the original cause.

We understand from the above that only focal hyperhidrosis is treated by botox injection.

Unfortunately, many people with hyperhidrosis are unaware that they have excessive sweating. They don’t talk about it because they feel embarrassed. Thus, the problem is never figured out or treated well.

Hyperhidrosis may cause serious consequences, such as:

  • Interfere negatively with social life and social activities, as people with hyperhidrosis will hesitate before getting involved socially.
  • Interfere negatively with sports & physical activities.

Basically, it may have a bad impact on mental health. Some people may try non-medical treatment at first, such as changing their lifestyle, but it does not usually work. Therefore, botox type A injections may be the most beneficial ones here.

How Does Botoks Injection for Sweating Work?

Botox are used in plastic surgery and for medical reasons. It is used to treat many conditions, such as aging, migraines, and excessive sweating, among many others.

Botox is a protein toxin that helps to temporarily stop the sweat glands from producing more sweat by blocking the nerve signals responsible for sweat.

Botox injections are an outpatient procedure, and it does not take long. The procedure may last for 45 minutes, but the injection part may take 15 minutes maximum. The doctor or the certified medical practitioner may use local anesthesia or ice to numb the area for less pain or discomfort.

Then, he uses a tiny needle to inject botoks under the skin after marking the areas to be injected with ink. On average, the number of injections may be around 15-20, but it may differ from one person to another. After the sweating botoks injection is done, the patient can resume normal activities.

Where are Botox injections for sweating applied to the body?

The most common botoks injection for sweating is the armpits – the underarm sweating area. It is the safest and most painless injection among all other areas. It is also approved by the FDA.

Alongside the armpit, the botoks injections can be used in the palms, soles of feet, and face.

How to prepare for Botoks Injections for Sweating

Botox injection is not invasive and is an outpatient procedure, but certain preparations must be made.

  • During the consultation, the patient must brief the dermatologist about their health conditions, health history, and medications. Knowing this assists in avoiding possible side effects.
  • The patient must not shave their hair for at least 3 to 4 days before the procedure.
  • Doctors usually request their patients to wear a short-sleeve t-shirt, preferably with a dark color to avoid visible ink spots, on the day of the procedure.

What to Expect After Botoks Injections

The effect of the botox injection can be noticed within 2 to 4 days after the injections, but the full impact will be seen after two weeks.

Since a botox injection for sweating has a temporary effect, the patient will need to repeat the procedure. For example;

  • For underarm injections, the patient may need booster injections every 7–16 months.
  • For hands and feet, the patient may need to repeat the botox injection after 6 months. The injections on these body parts don’t usually last as long as they do with the armpit.
